The Fiji Institute of Accountants believes that in the wake of COVID-19 or the Corona Virus, it has a responsibility to its members, partners and the Fijian community to answer Government’s call to assist those who have been affected. On behalf of its 905 members and the Council, the Institute is donating FJD10,000 towards the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Fund.
The donation, presented by FIA President, Mr Nitesh Lal and members of the Council to the Prime Minister’s office, will serve to assist those who have been directly affected by the pandemic. Mr Lal stated that although Fiji has reported 18 cases of which 14 patients have recovered to date, the repercussions of the virus is still being felt by thousands of Fijians who have been affected due to reduced working hours, pay-cuts or loss of employment.
“In these challenging and uncertain times, the virus has forced us to change the way we work and in light of this we must come together in solidarity to support those affected and the most vulnerable in our communities. Collectively, we will be able to provide some relief to the many families who need our help now” said Mr Lal.
The Institute also encourages its members and partners to support this national appeal to assist Fijians across the country.
The FIA also urges its members and partners that despite the lifting of the lockdown in both Suva and Lautoka, they should continue to act responsibly and exercise the preventative measures enforced by Government; wash your hands frequently with soap and water and as much as possible practice physical distancing.
